Its hard to fill nail tech positions when the prices for a manicure are low and the employers pay a low commission to their nail techs. However, times are changing. Nail Techs can be picky now because a skilled and experienced nail tech is considered a hot commodity now-a-days. Salons and spas have to start charging more by offering more creative services, customizing nail services, and offering more packages to their menu. Nail Techs can do more than just: a manicure, a pedicure and a full set. The last time I had a manicure the nail tech finish off with a five minute upper back massage.
Salons and spas have to start searching for new ideas and offer specialty services not commonly available to help raise the income level for the new age nail techs. Offering services like spa manicures, and spa pedicures with a sea salt scrub for exfoliations will give your salon/spa an edge. Adding aroma therapy adds extra bucks to your menu item; favorites include Lavender and Geranium.
Parraffin is the hot new add on that could go as high as $20.
In an innovative new application process, parraffin is applied to the hands in a chamber that consists of disposable gloves. Once sealed the chemical activates causing soothing heat that melts off the paraffin, allowing for deeper moisturization. The gloves are then disposed of once used; so there is no more dipping your hands in those huge containers and dripping paraffin everywhere.
There are a plethora of great ways to provide world class service and to increase clientele by improving the customer experience. Start by wrapping your clients hand in a hot towel after a sea salt scub. Purchase larger towels and wrap the lower arm and hand in a warm lavender smelling towel. Your client’s will love you. This service can be done on the legs and feet also. You can also customize nail tech services for customers like the chocolate martini’s and the strawberry daquiri’s; they are not actual drinks but they can be served from martini glasses (their are some beautiful plastic martini glasses). Afterwards serve your clients (who are of age) a glass of wine.
Manicures and Martini parties are the hottest trends that is happening in the nail tech industry and many shops can not accommodate such a party. Close your nail tech spa down early and invite some of clients back for a manicure and martini party. Have them pay a set price for a manicure, a pedicure, hand food, music, and a glass of wine. You will be amazed at how many people would show up! Have a “Bring a Pal Pedicure Party,” and make sure the pal is a male. Men like to have their nails done also. Set dates and times and post them for your nail techs and have your receptionist hand out invite cards to your customers.

Show nail techs your spa services and other creative events you have had in the past to prove to your nail techs that your are interested in increasing your revenue and their income.
